Citi Handlowy launches biometric credit process

As the first bank in Poland, Citi Handlowy has launched an entirely remote and automated process for applying for a credit card based on biometric solutions. Thus, the waiting time to obtain a credit decision may be reduced to even 30 minutes.

Citi Handlowy has consistently implemented its digitization strategy, under which the bank is working to, among others, introduce intuitive self-service processes and facilitate access to its banking products for new clients to the maximum extent. To this end, the bank has prepared a fully digital solution to apply for a loan or a credit card without leaving one’s home, any time, without the need to visit the branch or set a date with a courier, says Sabina Zielińska, the Head of the Business Development and Optimization Department. – The new process offers online provision of documents, an effective analysis of credit data and remote confirmation of the client’s identity based on face biometrics.

The new loan application process of Citi Handlowy comprises 3 stages:

  • filling in the application - the client can fill in the loan form and apply for the product on any device with Internet connection, without the need to install any application.
  • biometric confirmation of identity - the next step involves remote confirmation of the client’s identity. It is possible thanks to face biometrics and the so-called selfie. During the application process, the client will be asked to take a photo of their ID card and of their own face (selfie). The biometric solution will not only confirm that the selfie complies with the photo on the document, but also the authenticity of both the ID card and the selfie.
  • automatic income verification - the last stage of the process – the client encloses income documents in the format (.pdf) required for automatic verification.

Citi Handlowy has implemented the biometric credit process in cooperation with two fintech entities, whose solutions enable automatic income verification and remote confirmation of identity. Innovative technologies provided by our partners, which are based on algorithms and machine learning, allow us to offer exceptionally efficient and automatic client service. The solution is available to our clients on any device, without the need to install any additional apps. It marks a “small revolution” in banking, – says Sabina Zielińska.

The biometric credit process can be initiated on Citi Handlowy's website; as a next step, it will be implemented on external sites, which will allow clients to apply for a credit card of the Bank.
